Report from our Community Farm and Yam Garden in Mozambique

Altaf Baba (Mozambique Humanist Survivors)

Our community garden began in February after receiving the funding. After securing the farmland, we cleared the last debris and remnant of the last farming activities on the land. After that we made a total of 1072 mounds. It was a very tasking activity but with the help of the group members and some community members who align with the idea of  mutual aid we were able to get this done without paying a dime.

After the mounds had been made, grains of corn and tubers of yam to be planted were bought. The yams and corn were planted on each heap.

This is a huge agriculture project and we are optimistic that we can make a lot of money from it if our crops are protected from drought, pests and weeds. We are expecting at least 2300 tubers of yam and 3000+ cobs of corn. We will need future funding and support for manure, compost, organic pesticides and large storage units.

We are thankful for the support HuMAN is giving us. With their help we can feed many people from our community in the coming months.
