BLEEDING RAINBOWS IN THE GUTTER

(for Transgender Remembrance Day)

The worst pain of all was living a lie.
Keeping the truth of my colors inside.
Living every day in god damn gray,
wishing every night I could fly away.

I remember the taste of that gun in my mouth
when I was young and everything in my life went south.
I promised myself better days ahead.
But some people never get the chance and wind up dead.

Hey, what can I say? Ain’t nobody ever asked to be trans or gay.
And praying sure as hell won’t make it go away.
People should learn to love, or learn to shut up, because I’m are tired of the shedding of innocent blood.

Bleeding rainbows. Bleeding rainbows in the gutter.

You didn’t ask to be you. I never asked to be me.
Those kids killing themselves, they didn’t even ask to be.
Now I hear of people dying just for wearing a dress, or hiding their breasts.
What the hell is up with this mess?
If you’re hating on people learning to love their own skin,
don’t you dare talk about Making America Great Again.
So they got a different way to learn to love themselves.
Who the hell are you to go around judging them?!

There’s too much hate and not enough love. The streets are running with rainbow blood.
Too much hate and I’ve had enough. Its time for good folks to start speaking up.
There I said it. Infect you so you spread it. Spit my truth in their face so they don’t forget it.
I’m tired of the hate, and children’s cries. Tired of the wasted rainbow lives.

Yo, Good People...

There are kids out there who’ve lost their father or their mother.
Its time we step up and be their sister, or their brother.
They’ve been kicked to the streets, thrown to the lions
I’m tired of hearing about the rainbow kids dying.

Stand up, stand out. Don’t be silent, speak up!
Its time to tell the haters that love ain’t gonna keep shut.
It is time to scream!
From sea to shining sea
from blue inner cities to red state prairies.
That we are tired of the hate, tired of the lies, tired of wasted rainbow lives. Tired of the pain, tired of the cries, tired of keeping the truth inside.

Bleeding rainbows. Bleeding rainbows in the gutter.

Yo, Trans People...

Listen here brothers, and listen here sisters. Ill call you whatever pronoun your heart whispers.
So you dance to a different drum. Sing to a different tune.
Yo, I get it. I’ll be me and you be you.
I ain’t much in a fight, but Ill tell you what’s right.
If you’re hurting I won’t ever leave you alone in the night.
If you’re under attack I’ll be getting your back.
Silence their lies, with facts and facts.
There’s too much hate and not enough love. The streets are running with rainbow blood.
Too much hate and I’ve had enough. Its time for good folks to start speaking up.

Bleeding rainbows. Bleeding rainbows in the gutter.

The only thing evil needs to succeed is for good people out there to be silent and weak.
Because the worst blow I ever had to endure was the silence from those who I thought would be heard.
The silence of those who should have spoke up, and stepped in and said dammit, enough is enough.
But nobody did, nobody did shit, and I’m the one who lives with the memory of it.

But that was back then and now is now, and I’m learning everyday to choose compassion and how I
care for others, and think of the weak, and fight all of those just trying to be.

Love is a noun, we need to make it a verb, so everybody out there knows love is an action word!
Love is a noun, we need to make it a verb, so everybody out there knows love is an action word!
Love is a noun, we need to make it a verb, I’ll spit these words all damn day until my truth is heard.
Love is a noun, we need to make it a verb, so everybody out there knows love is an action word!
Love is a noun, we need to make it a verb, let the rainbow kids know that their cries are heard!
Love is a noun, we need make it a verb, till everybody out there knows love is an action word!
